With All Due Respect Speaker Pelosi, If Rhetoric Was Energy You’d Be A Power Plant!

In a press conference, Thursday 9/17/2009, Nancy Pelosi made a cheap costume jewelry performance of an emotional plea.   She said that the anti-government rhetoric over President Barack Obama's health care reform effort is concerning, because it reminds her of the violent debate over gay rights that roiled San Francisco in the 1970s.  Great analogy coming from a liberal ideologue, but way off the mark about why this country is upset.  Even as late as today’s news conference she ignores the people, their cause, and that she is one of the biggest instigators of why the citizens are upset.  Instead she showers us all with her great-grandmotherly wisdom, "I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made.  Some of the people hearing the message "are not as balanced as the person making the statement might assume."  I was kind of thinking it is more like some of the people making the statements are not as balanced as those that hear the message!  One most recent comment was the racist accusation made by former president Carter, which only crystallizes how far out of touch the liberals are and that denial is their panacea.

"Our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe," Pelosi added.  "But I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause."  Ah, no truer words were spoken Speaker Pelosi.  Speaking about responsibility, I think your interpretation of your congressional title may be askew.  KTVU 04/15/2009 "We call it astroturf" referring to the protests. 08/10/2009 Washington Examiner on a USA today op-ed quoting "an ugly campaign" Pelosi and Hoyer called the acts "simply un-American." Any more examples begin to become boring.

Just to clear up any misconception, being Speaker does not give Pelosi a pass on taking responsibility for inciting unrest, or even violence.  However, taking responsibility might be a new role for someone that has a history of blurting out "un-American" to any opposition that may interfere with her liberal agenda on health care, abortion, illegal immigration, etc.

The Obsession For Power And Control Has Never Been More Obvious

We are only one day away from another campaign presentation by a President who fails at leadership, but continues to excel at being one of the best orators and organizers of our time.  While a majority on the left continue in a trance from the 2008 presidential campaign, the only stumbling block to Barack Obama and his radical far-left agenda has been the slow to awaken conservative voice of America.  Nothing President Obama says on Wednesday, short of assuring the American citizens that all current bills in Congress will be scrubbed, should be deemed acceptable.  Congress shall then assemble new bipartisan legislation totally transparent that reflects the concerns heard by the voice of America and available to the public for no less than 30 days for their review.

Besides all that I read in H.R. 3200, the most troubling aspect of the legislation for me was what I didn’t read which allows for multiple interpretations and a variety of loopholes in an effort to arrive at a conclusion.  In an effort to not bore the reader with too much detail, before even arriving to the 75th page of the bill, the average individually insured, or employer-based insurance plan could be jeopardized by inability to meet new standards.  This would thrust the insured into a TBD insurance exchange, or the public option.  So much for the "if you like your doctor and the insurance you have, you can keep them."  The new commissioner that will be making all the new policy, rules, and decisions for the future of your health care can’t be expected to do this all alone for approximately 300 million people (legal and illegal immigrants), he/she will need some help. Want to take a guess at the size of staff that will take?  Just imagine all the jobs this will create, even if they are all non-capital generating government jobs.  Did I mention that around page 70 we have come up with 10 billion dollars to bail out failed union benefit plans?  Those lucky sons-of-guns, must have been one of those "too big to fail" things.

What is stopping our lawmakers from introducing language in these bills to solidify areas of concern that are open-ended or ambiguous?  How about a division that clearly states that items of concern like elective abortion is not covered or, services and guidelines currently provided by Medicare/Medicaid coverage may be enhanced, but not diminished in any way.

I could go on and on about the pathetic piece of legislation H.R. 3200 is, but I won’t.  There is much more at stake than health care legislation alone.  We have not heard the last of Cap & Trade, and today Obama spoke at a Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic to not only push his health care agenda, but to affirm his commitment to EFCA when he said:

"That's why Secretary Solis has made it a priority at the Labor Department to protect workers: your safety, your benefits, your right to organize and bargain collectively. It's why some of the first executive orders I issued overturned the previous administration's attempts to stifle organized labor. It's why I support the Employee Free Choice Act-to level the playing field so it's easier for employees who want a union to form a union. Because when labor is strong, America is strong. When we all stand together, we all rise together."

The Employee Free Choice Act is anything but the implication of the title.  To understand how devious this bill is, one would have had to be a part of a union organizing attempt and a witness to the process.  A shortened term for this bill is "card check".  There is a strong potential for employees to be intimidated by the organizing union and biased peer pressure because if 50%+1 of the employees signed cards the union would be automatically certified by the NLRB as the bargaining unit without a secret ballot election.  It has been my experience that unions are sometimes called on for retribution from a disgruntled employee, and can be devastating for all parties concerned.  This new bill can be particularly ominous for small business because the cost to organize unions would be greatly reduced making smaller groups easier targets.

If we thought the first eight months of Obama’s term were action packed with change and transformation the remaining four of this year will be far worse.  Obama is not happy about the opposition he has received, especially with health care reform.  The turmoil with Van Jones and many of Obama’s appointments should be watched very closely because they will represent a great deal of this transformation that will tear at this countries moral, ethical, and financial well being.  Obama has already shown us his ability to do what he wishes in spite of what violates normal protocol or our Constitution.  Impressive game-plan if you look at it closely.  His administration is pushing an almost outrageous agenda so anything between tolerable and outrageous is a huge win for transformation.

Does Anyone Speak The Truth?

I didn't arrive at 64 years old by accident, and have arrived here by being a good student of life.  The greed and corruption that surrounds us in all walks of life is shameful.  There is no race, gender, political ideology, or religious affiliation involved in turpitude, it surrounds us.  If the motives aren't motivated by money, they are for power.

It doesn't matter what AARP says now that the heat has been turned up on this health care issue.   I read the information sent to us by AARP, and even since CEO Bill Novelli AARP policy has been to promote health care reform, nothing has been more clear since A. Barry Rand has been on board. Bill Novelli stuck to the claim of being bipartisan and although very political, used that to his and AARP's advantage.  Barry Rand is an avid Obama supporter, and supports his agenda in spite of the lack of clarity in both House and Senate versions of the health care legislation.  Proof of the fact that Barry Rand is a passionate supporter of all that Obama has on his agenda is campaign contributions which maxed out at $4600 for 2008.  Bill Novelli in all his years with AARP as CEO contributed nothing to a party or presidential candidate.

When Bill Novelli was CEO, the following statement was made in a 02/25/2009 AARP document in which he was applauding the president for his commitment to reform healthcare.  Novelli also laid out bipartisan guidelines for specific issues that addressed those 50-64 years of age that represented the fastest growing group of uninsured. "AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that helps people 50+ have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them and society as a whole. AARP does not endorse candidates for public office or make contributions to either political campaigns or candidates."  Barry Rand may not be violating this policy, but he sure is bending the spirit of the intent by his clear support for Obama and his agenda.  No matter how close in line Barry Rand was with Obama we’ll never know for sure, but it is clear that opposing public opinion has altered a health care agenda filled with blind corners and deceit.

In spite of what party you support, we have concrete evidence over the years that it would be irresponsibly naïve to blindly trust anyone in Washington D.C. to legislate what is best for us, especially something as crucial as our health and well being.  We as Americans, especially us seniors, need to be vigilant and independently informed of, each and every legislation that is being pushed through Congress at unprecedented speed.  Our future and the future of generations to come rely on decisions we allow to be made by representatives that live by totally different rules than those that govern us.  How is that genuine representation?

Here is what we do know about the current health care bills in Congress, and at the very least should raise red flags for any logically clear thinking citizen. If we as citizens wanted to read the legislation that effects us what would we read?  There are no less than four versions of legislation in Congress, one of which is 1,017 pages, none of which are clear enough to interpret without a law degree and capable of explaining intent.  Why such urgency in signing into law when so few have even had a chance to digest the content, including our elected in Congress?  What happened to the current administration’s highly touted transparency and ability of citizens to review legislation before it becomes law?  What happened to eliminating business as usual and mandating a bipartisan effort to legislation?  There are many more red flags and causes for concern, but this has to end somewhere, so I will finish up with this last thought.  It is pretty certain that tax on health care benefits is one of the ways this $1.5 trillion-dollar monster will have to be funded, but it brings up my final question.  Why would Congress and Union workers be exempt from such a necessary taxation?

Seniors that belong to AARP are 40 million strong, and along with millions of other concerned American citizens need to continue putting pressure on the elected officials.  We have seen the results, and they are positive!  Don’t be fooled by members of Congress and the administration into thinking that we don’t matter.  The only time we don’t matter is when we are silent and don’t ask questions that demand answers.  We have two weeks left of directly having our voices heard before Congress can once again hide behind their unanswered phone calls, and senseless boiler-plate email and snail mail responses to legitimate questions.  Don’t forget there are other issues we should be addressing like Cap & Trade and Immigration reform which both severely effect the miserable economy and unemployment which will be with us for untold years.
