Since well before the election, eligibility has been a lukewarm to hot topic. It was a hot topic when they were putting John McCain’s feet to the fire because of his birth in the Panama Canal Zone. That by the way took a ruling from the courts to clear the path for his eligibility to serve as President. There was never such a stringent vetting process with Obama when clearly his eligibility was considerably more complex.

The whole issue has come to a head recently because of the controversy raised by Lou Dobbs of CNN. There were unverified threats he would lose his job if he did not drop the issue. Lou Dobbs does not believe that the president is not a citizen that was born in Hawaii, he just thinks Obama should present his long form birth certificate and end this debate once and for all. I happen to agree with Lou Dobbs on this one. Once again anyone that doesn’t agree with the Democrats, far-left OBOTS, and anyone else that believes in Obama’s ineligibility is a far-right extremist or fringe activist. It has been an issue for some for so long now that they have even been given the new label "the birthers" which appears in Wikipedia, and will be coming to a Webster’s dictionary near you soon. Although Bill O’Reilly defends Dobbs right to free speech, he, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Mike Huckabee and other conservative pundits believe the President’s eligibility issue is a dead one.

The long form birth certificate from Hawaii is only one part of this eligibility controversy that I don’t think should be abandoned just because it is making some involved in it uncomfortable or hot under the collar. We should all remember how it was repeatedly mentioned, by a candidate who has become President that part of his signature change would be government transparency. In the first six months of his office the change we have seen has been anything but transparent. Why the secrecy of his records from birth through college? There have been numerous circumstances from Obama’s administration of bending and violation of law. Where in the Constitution does it allow for Czars with such sweeping power with no oversight and accountability? Where in the Constitution does it allow the assumption of private enterprise at the expense of "we the people"? Where in the bankruptcy law under chapter 11 does it allow taking capital interests from investors and transferring them to labor unions? In spite of what the American people want the President and Congress thumb their nose at us and proceed with policy and programs that will hurt us for generations to come.

In my opinion, the current President of the United States needs to prove he is a "natural born citizen" which is a Constitutional requirement for being President. The First Congress was very specific defining that a natural born citizen is one born on U.S. soil of parents who are both citizens of the United States. The issue is far from dead, and even if it is proven not to be a fraudulent appointment, it will be something that must be decided by the courts.
